Privacy policy

dNotch is built to keep your data on your Mac. This page explains the little we do handle, why, and your rights.

Who is responsible

Juozas Zobernis, a sole trader in Lithuania, is the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: support@dnotch.app.

The short version

• No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell your data.
• The app's settings and everything it sees on your screen stay on your Mac. Backups and sync go to your own iCloud Drive or Dropbox folder, which we can't access.
• We keep only what's needed to sell you a license and make it work: your email, your purchase, and which Macs your license is on.

When you buy

Payments are handled by Paddle, our reseller and merchant of record. Paddle collects your payment details and billing address and is responsible for them under its own privacy policy. We never see your card. From Paddle we receive your email address, your country, what you bought and its status (for example a refund or cancellation).

We use this to create and email your license key, show your purchases in your account, handle refunds and support, and keep the records tax law requires. The legal basis is our contract with you and our legal obligations. If you ticked the box at checkout to hear about product updates, we may occasionally email you about dNotch; you can unsubscribe anytime.

Your license and Macs

Your license key contains your email address and your purchase ID. When you activate dNotch, and about once a day after that, the app sends the key to dnotch.app together with an anonymous ID for your Mac (a one-way code made from the Mac, not its serial number) and the Mac's name. We store the ID, the name and when the Mac was activated and last checked in, so a license stays within its Mac limit and you can see and remove your Macs in your account. The legal basis is our contract with you. A Mac's record is deleted when you remove it.

Your account

To sign in to your account, you enter your email and we send you a one-time code. We store your email address and when you last signed in. A cookie keeps you signed in on dnotch.app; it's only used for that.

The Mac app

Beyond licensing, the app only connects to other services for features you choose to use:

• Weather: sends a rounded location (to about 1 km), or the city you typed, to Open-Meteo to get the forecast.
• Claude and Cursor usage: only after you press Connect, the app uses their existing sign-in on your Mac to ask Anthropic or Cursor for your usage limits. Codex usage is read from files on your Mac, with no network at all. None of this goes through us.
• Now Playing: loads album artwork from Spotify when you're playing music there.
• Update check: asks GitHub whether a newer version exists.
• Permissions: what dNotch sees with Accessibility or Screen Recording (your menu bar icons) is used on your Mac only and never sent anywhere.

Those services receive your IP address when the app connects to them, as any internet service does, and handle it under their own policies.

The website

dnotch.app uses no analytics and no advertising cookies. Our host keeps short-lived server logs (such as IP address and browser) to run and protect the site. On the checkout page, Paddle's checkout may set its own cookies to process the payment and prevent fraud.

Who helps us

We use a few providers to run dNotch. They process data only on our instructions:

• Paddle (UK): payments, taxes and receipts, as merchant of record.
• Supabase (servers in Frankfurt, Germany): account sign-in and the list of activated Macs.
• Resend (sending from Ireland): license and sign-in emails.
• Vercel: hosting the website. Its server code runs in Frankfurt, Germany; pages are delivered from a worldwide network.

Some of these companies are based in the US. Where data leaves the EU, it's protected by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep data

• Purchase records: as long as tax and accounting law requires.
• Mac activations: until you remove the Mac, or until your license ends and a short grace period passes.
• Your account: until you ask us to delete it.
• Server logs: a few days to weeks, as our host keeps them.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Write to support@dnotch.app and we'll reply within a month. Some purchase records must be kept for tax reasons even if you ask us to delete them. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Lithuanian State Data Protection Inspectorate (vdai.lrv.lt) or to the data protection authority where you live.

Children

dNotch isn't aimed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date below, and tell customers by email about any important change.
